History :
This centre was founded by Dr. Mohammed Ali Vajid in 1993, with the name of HUSAINI HAEMATOLOGY & ONCOLOGY SERVICES (HHOS) at the ground floor of Zainabia Garden, Soldier Bazaar no. 2, Karachi, Pakistan
HHOS is one of the most important department of HUSAINI HAEMATOLOGY & ONCOLOGY TRUST which deals mainly with Thalassaemia, Hemophilia, Sickle cell anemia and few other hematological disorders. Oncology being the future option to deal with.
Since 2001, HHOS is situated in the main building with HUSAINI HAEMATOLOGY & ONCOLOGY TRUST, 43, Rehmat Manzil, Bhurgary Road, Soldier Bazar, near Purani Numaish, Karachi, Pakistan.

Thalassaemia:
Dedicated and research oriented staff members serving Thalassaemia and patients related to other hematological disorders as a day care from 9 A.M to 5P.M on daily basis are as follows

Following state of art services are available at HHOS as a palliative treatment which is free of cost.
- Blood transfusions of leuco reduced packed red cells, FFPs and platelets properly screened on chemiluminescent technology
- Iron chelation therapy with injection Desferal and oral Deferiprone. Oral Deferisirox will be inducted in near future.
- Lab tests like serum Blood CP, Serum Ferritin, Hb electrophoresis and other diagnostics.
- Regular OPDs are conducted; ICU care is available, drugs and desferal pumps are provided for home with all the accessories.
- Beside above said technical support; food, drinks, fare charges to poor patients, education, entertainment and recreational trips are also the part of costless services.
Prevention Of Thalassaemia
Thalassaemia Major is a preventable disease. Patient inherits the altered genes from both parents. Parents are called carriers or Thalassaemia minors (They are normal people carrying one normal and another altered gene) and the patient is called Thalassaemia Major (They carry both abnormal genes).
HHOS is preventing Thalassaemia
- By providing extended family screening of our registered Thalassaemia patients through a blood test “Hb electrophoresis” which entails who is carrier and who is not.
- Pre and post test genetic counseling emphasizing on prevention of marriage between two carriers.
- Prenatal diagnosis of Thalassaemia during 10 to 12 weeks of pregnancy.
- Services are provided free of cost.
HHOS has conducted almost 30,000 Hb electrophoresis tests up till November, 2007
Hemophilia
A dedicated in charge medical officer and a nursing staff provide services to hemophiliacs on daily basis from 1P.M to 5P.M at HHOS under supervision of head of department, Hematologist, Orthopedic surgeon and a Physiotherapist.
Services are as follows
- Daily OPDs from 1P.M to 3P.M
- Injection Factor EIGHT & NINE
- Blood products like cryoprecipitate, cryosupernatant, FFPs, platelets and packed red cells
- Related lab tests
- Other related supportive treatment
